Split Systems – Myths Uncovered
It doesn't matter what time of year it is in Canberra, being comfortable at home is important! This means all Canberrans need to be well informed and well equipped to stay warm during the winter chill or nice and cool in our dry summer heat. This brings to mind the topic of
split system heating and cooling units. These systems have many untruths circulated about them and we intend to debunk some of the more widely known myths right here.
MYTH ONE: Split systems are bad for the environment
This myth existed a while ago, split systems were far less energy efficient than they are today and bad for the environment. This really is not the case anymore and they are much more energy efficient than they were 10 years ago. Split systems use inverter technology, this means they adjust compressor speed depending on what your room requires for heating or cooling at any time. This makes split systems a better option for the environment and also makes them cost efficient to run as well as they are adaptive to the requirements of the room. One further point to note, they are generally cheaper to install than other systems, so a money saver!
At Airconditioning Canberra, we only use the best brands available. One of these brands is
Daikin - Daikin are actively working to alleviate the affect their products have on the environment. Read all about Daikin’s response to climate change

MYTH TWO: Split systems only cool my house
This is such a common misconception with split system units. Most think they are purely a cooling unit, but these are reverse cycle air conditioners, so they cool AND heat the house, which makes it a cheaper option for temperature control in the house as you are essentially getting 2-in-1.
MYTH FOUR: Split systems are UGLY
This point is NOW false …. They used to be fairly unsightly and not a great addition to your interior décor, but these days the aesthetics have been factored into how a split system unit should look.
Systems are installed so the outer unit is pretty well hidden from the outside world, and the unit inside is white, sleek and fits nicely into a home’s décor.
Below is an example of a unit we install at Air Conditioning Canberra.
MYTH FIVE: Split systems are NOISY
Split systems are not making sounds that are likely to disrupt your daily routine. Older units did tend to be louder than the newer versions, but even the older units were reasonably quiet and suitable for family life. In fact, if your unit is making a loud sound, it might be time to call Airconditioning Canberra for a service to ensure your system is ready to brave the Canberra winter cold.
