Heating, Cooling and Electrical services for Canberra & Surrounding areas
It is a mystery to a lot of people, but below is a simple and easy to understand explanation of the difference between Evaporative, Ducted and Split air heating and cooling systems.
What is it?
It is a method of cooling whereby evaporation is used to cool the air. Each evaporative cooler contains cooling pads inside, and these must remain saturated. Air is pulled from outside into the system and a fan will then run air through the cooling pads which then pushes the cool air into your home.
Benefits?
It is one of the most cost-effective ways of cooling your house as these systems use less electricity to run. This reduction in electricity use means they are also the friendliest to our environment. They have a very long-life span and can last up to 20 years if regularly serviced.
Any Negatives?
Evaporate cooling is becoming less desirable due to all the dust and smoke around Canberra. Also, with the increased humidity levels they are becoming less efficient.
What is it?
Ducted systems
work by having one central unit in your home with the air being pushed out via several different ducts in the rooms that you wanted heated or cooled.
Benefits?
They can cool and heat your entire home, which ensures a consistent temperature throughout your entire house. You can also choose to zone where the ducted system cools or heats individual rooms. This is a massive benefit for family’s that aren’t always spread around the house, you can turn off certain ducts to create more cost efficiency with your bills. The unit itself is quite hidden, so you do not need to worry about it affecting the aesthetics of the house. It also means you can have a custom-made system for your property, as it is not a one size fits all solution.
Any Negatives?
Ducted reverse cycle is still technically a split system, it has an indoor and outdoor unit, and the con is they are not as energy efficient as a combination of Split / Multiheaded systems.
What is it?
Split system is as the name suggests – one system split into two units. These are the air conditioners that have a unit inside and outside your house. The outdoor unit contains a condenser and compressor to substitute the air inside for the cooling or heating that you are after. The inside unit contains an evaporator to cool the air.
Benefits?
Energy bills will be cheaper as you are only cooling or heating the rooms you choose to. They are quiet to use and can heat and cool.
Any Negatives?
Some people do not like the look of the indoor units on the walls (although with the new styling they are becoming aesthetically pleasing).
